Enjoyed a brief walk this morning along Rich Mtn Rd.--birds singing like
crazy.
Scarlet tanagers, indigo buntings, and gold finches adding color to song.
Scads of chestnut sided warblers. A ruby crowned kinglet. Still good
numbers of pine siskins. Plus all the others usuals.
a Rich Mtn first for me: a flock of 4 Eastern Kingbirds passing through the
tree tops. Not only have I never seen kingbirds on this road, I've never
seen a flock of kingbirds, nor have I ever seen kingbirds in the tree tops,
but usually on a fence or wire or similar perch. Is seeing a flock of them
in the tree tops typical during migration?
Curtis Smalling reports vesper sparrows at the gap of Rich Mtn., but no
yellow-winged warblers yet.
We are also awaiting the hopeful return of our lone grasshopper sparrow for
his fourth summer (I think that's right) as a bachelor in the gap.
