Shantanu and all,
I haven't been there this year, but in the past the parking lot itself
has lots of birds around the edges near the water and in the older trees.
There is a nice path at the base of the parking area (on the left-hand side
if facing the river) that eventually merges with the path that Shantanu took.
Also if one proceeds far enough, the path veers off to the left, going away
from the river and changes into what seems like dense, overgrown
orchard/meadow type habitat.
