Hello, this is a July 4 update of the Carolina Rare Bird Alert featuring

Club. highlights on this report include:

WHITE-FACED IBIS
PURPLE GALLINULE
MAGNIFICENT FRIGATEBIRDS
MOURNING WARBLER
WHITE-WINGED DOVE
REDDISH EGRETS

A WHITE-FACED IBIS is being seen in Nags Head , NC. Look along the Old Nags
Head Rd south of town at about milepost 19 between the 9500 and 9600 block.
The bird is seen in the roadside ditch. Latest report July 4.

A PURPLE GALLINULE is being seen in the early AM ( before 8:00) across from
the main parking lot at Fort Fisher State Rec. Area. The bird forages on the
roadside.

MAGNIFICENT FRIGATEBIRDS have been reported twice recently. On 6-27 one was
in Winyah Bay near Georetown, SC. On July 3 one was over the ocean at Pea
Island NWR on the Outer Banks.

Two and possibly three REDDISH EGRETS were seen at Murrells Inlet SC on July
4. Look from the Garden City side of the inlet or the Huntington Beach S.P.
side during low tide.

A WHITE -WINGED DOVE continues to be seen in Beaufort, NC at the intersection
of Live Oak and Ann Sts. Listen for the frequent calling of this bird to
locate it.

A male MOURNING WARBLER continues to be present but challenging to see at
Roan Mt. NC. From Carvers Gap take the Appalachian Trail toward Grassy Bald.
Take the Grassy Bald Trail when it intersects with the AT. Orange survey tape
a hundred yards or so up the trail marks the general area where the bird is
seen and heard.

Thanks this week to Susan Boyd, Jack Peachey, Faye Metzl, Ritch Lilly, for
their calls and reports. Some of this information was gleaned from
Carolinabirds.
