Nice count of Gull-billed Terns

This morning, I got to go into a private waterfowl impoundment in
Carteret County, NC.

Because of the VERY heavy rains of the previous 48 hours, I did not
expect to see many shorebirds, and this was indeed the case.

Of interest was a nice aggregation of terns, which were virtually all
Gull-billed Terns, about 110 of them. Quite a nice count of this
declining species. However, I saw only one hatching-year bird in the
group. Otherwise, they were all adults.
