Marco Island, FL birding

To All:
1st trip to Marco Island was a treat for shorebirding. I saw colonies of
protected nesting sites and more shore birds in a place than I have ever seen
anywhere before! Loved seeing the Black Skimmers in huge numbers, Double
Crested Cormorants, Pelicans, sooooo many types of large and small waders,
gulls, terns together! Reddish Egrets "dancing" in shallow waters! Many
Ospreys!
One of the delights of the trip was my first sighting of Magnificent
Frigate Birds! These elegant gliders were truly graceful and quite beautiful
silhouetted in the sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico.
This area really honors its nature, and the birds were comfortable
letting me get quite close to observe them. Roosting sites surround Marco on
many undeveloped islands around it also, and Sea Turtles have chosen Marco as
a nesting area as well. A place I would return and recommend!
