Hi Helmut and C'birders,
Perhaps not, It was flying toward us and I did see it make an about face
and appear to go after something and then went behind the tree line, I
assumed it went after an insect perhaps a dragonfly, thus "hawking
insects". It appeared to be an opportunistic thing. The "Birders
Handbook", Ehrlich, Dobkin and Wheye does list insects as a food source
for Sharp-shinned Hawk.
