Blue Ridge Parkway update and migration count

They are making some progress and have opened up some of the parkway that was
closed. As of today the section from the Folk Art Center in Asheville
(milepost 382) to Ox Creek Rd (milepost 375) has been reopened, but the
section from Ox Creek Road to Mount Mitchell is still closed. For you
Cerulean Warbler fans this is good news. The Cerulean Warbler section is from
Craven Gap to just past the Bull Creek overlook and Ox Creek Rd is about half
way between the two, so you should be able to get some Ceruleans between
Craven Gap and Ox Creek Rd. Bull Gap (that's where Ox Creek Rd comes in) is
usually a good spot. It's also a good spot for Blackburnian. You'll probably
have to crane your necks for both of these species as they both favor the
treetops. I don't know if the Ceruleans are in yet, but they usually come
back about this time.

Also, anyone interested in doing the Buncombe County spring migration count on
Sunday, May 11th, please let me know ASAP. This count is great fun. It
includes some really great birding areas and we usually get lots of warblers.
I will try to contact all previous participants personally, but if you are new
to the area or new to the count, please contact me soon.
Thanks,
Marilyn
