Year Birds & Flooding



I just returned from a couple of quick stops along Highway 701 south of
Conway in Horry County, SC.  In particular, I'd hoped to check New Road,
Punchpole Road, Port Harrelson Road and the sod farm at Bucksport.  Three of
these locations were flooded.  New Road was passable but a resident there
suggested that the City of Conway would be closing it soon.  Port Harrelson
Road was impassable some 300 yds. beyond Bucksport Road.  Punchpole Road was
completely under water.  In fact, the only home on the unpaved section of
the road was flooded.

I was only able to check the area around the sod farm for a short time.
Even so, two new years birds were found (*).  I heard three and saw a single
Yellow-billed Cuckoo.  Additionally, six Blue Grosbeaks were seen.
