The following are highlights of the 3 hour Sunday morning birdwalk at
Magnolia Plantation at 3550 Ashley River Road ( highway 61 ) northwest of
Charleston, SC led by Perry Nugent at 8:30 am. A fee is charged.
May 18, 2003
52 species were seen and/or heard. The most interesting were; 8 Pied-billed
Grebes ( 2 babies ), 40 Anhingas, 10 Least Bitterns, 6 Great Blue Herons, 40
Great Egrets, 20 Snowy Egrets, 20 Cattle Egrets, 100 Little Blue Herons, 6
Tricolored Herons, 6 Green Herons, 10 Black-crowned Night Herons, 1 Glossy
Ibis, all of the birds listed above have nests and babies, 1 Hooded
Merganser, 25 Common Moorhens ( babies ), 3 American Coots ( 2 babies ), 25
Least Terns, 1 Yellow-billed Cuckoo, 1 Prothonotary warbler, 3 Painted
Buntings, 1 House Finch.
