Pecosin Lakes NWF - Navy Outlying Landing Field

Hello all,

Chris Canfield has just sent out the following information regarding an
NPR broadcast concerning the Navy's proposed OLF. Looks like an early
morning is in order on Sunday for those in the Triangle.

Forthcoming National Broadcast on OLF

NPR (National Public Radio) will air a segment concerning the proposed
OLF on its program, Living on Earth, over the coming fourth of July
weekend. Leda Hartman, the reporter, has been following Navy issues,
including the closure of the Vieques bombing range. She did a careful
examination of the Washington County OLF site and its potential impact
on people and wildlife.

Here's the broadcast schedule for our area.
WUNC (Chapel Hill) 91.5 FM Sunday, July 6 7-8 AM
WKNS (Kingston) 90.3 FM Saturday July 5 3:30-4:30 PM
WURI (Manteo) 90.9 FM Saturday, July 5 3:30-4:30 PM
WRQM (Rocky Mount) 90.9 FM Sunday July 6 7-8 AM
(The Norfolk NPR stations don't carry Living on Earth in their
line-up.)

If you don't get these stations on your radio, or forget to tune in,
read on....

The full NPR broadcast schedule for North America is available on the
program's Website: http://www.loe.org You can use this link anytime the
week of the show (July 4 through 10) to hear the show as an NP3 file or
to read a transcript of the OLF segment. After July 10 the show will be
available on their website through their Archives.

FEIS Release

The best information we have is that the Navy's Final Environmental
Impact Statement (FEIS) will be released in mid to late July.

At that time the Navy will announce their plan concerning basing of its
new Super Hornet jet aircraft which may or may not involve the
construction of an unnecessary OLF.
