No big numbers to report today. The watch site was unattended until
3:00, and most of todays flights apparently came through in the morning
hours.
Todays totals:
Broad-winged Hawk -- 103
Peregrine Falcon -- 1 (a very nice, close-range glide-by)
Today over the Asheville High campus (10:00 -- 12:00):
Broad-winged Hawk -- 131
Butterfly observations:
Yesterday (9/23) we were just too busy counting birds to note butterfly
numbers with any accuracy. I'd estimate the number of Monarchs crossing
the gap between 3:30 and 6:00 at about 40 per hour.
Today (9/24) there was a much heavier movement during this same time
span...I'd estimate 250 per hour easily. Also noted were 6 Sulphurs.
