Bluebirds at feeders

Several year ago, during a cold winter the bluebirds in west Durham
started visiting feeders and eating seed. This passed summer, we saw
the adult birds who raised two groups of young in our yard bluebird
box bring the young to our platform feeder and feed them seeds.
Later we saw the young come back alone and eat seed. We
use a mix of half black oil sunflower and half sunflower hearts. The
Blue birds eat the hearts and if they are not available, they eat the
bits and pieces of hearts left by the finches, etc. who crack open the
regular sunflower seed. We have suet at our feeders but we have never
seen the bluebirds eat it --- only the sunflower hearts.
