Birders,
Meck. Co. listers may want to check the canada goose flock at McAlpine Park
in Charlotte for a blue morph snow goose seen yesterday 1-27. The goose is
wild but the feral canadas have calmed it down some. Beware that a large,
bulky domestic goose with some dark coloring also freqents the park
occasionally. The snow goose is much smaller than the canadas and the
"grinning patch " on the bill is readily seen. Water pipits are also on the
snow covered soccer fields there , affording leisurely looks at this species.
Both of these species are firsts for the park I believe.
