** FOREST ATTENDANT **
RibbonWalk, Charlotte's Botanical Forest, has an immediate opening
for a dependable Forest Attendant at its stunningly beautiful
154-acre nature reserve just 10 minutes from downtown Charlotte.
Required traits:
--Dependable and reliable
--Outstanding people skills (in person and on the phone)
--Team player capable of taking both initiative and direction
--Ability to work outdoors for extended periods
--Ability to do moderately strenuous work (maintaining trails, moving
light equipment, etc.)
--Excellent personal/professional references
Helpful traits:
--Knowledge of Piedmont natural history (including birds!)
--Ability to teach in the out-of-doors and lead short field trips
The Forest Attendant works 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4
p.m. each Sunday at RibbonWalk (4601 Nevin Road), for 11 hours per
week. Compensation is about $7 per hour (net pay), depending upon
qualifications; the position does not include medical insurance.
There is a potential for expanded employment within one to two years.
The Forest Attendant may have additional opportunities to work some
weekday evenings or to help with major office projects (mailing
newsletters, etc.).
The Forest Attendant must be 100% reliable; he/she is responsible for
opening the gate to the public every Saturday and Sunday, and for
closing the Forest at the end of those days.
The Forest Attendant orients and interacts with members and visitors,
accepts entrance fees, sells memberships, helps with light
maintenance and trail grooming, and assures that Forest guidelines
are followed by visitors. A Forest Attendant with demonstrated
natural history knowledge and teaching skills may be asked to assist
with or lead short field trips or other educational activities.
The Office Manager reports to the Acting Executive Director.

Search closes when the position is filled; the successful candidate
will be asked to report for training on 19 February 2000 and to
assume full responsibilities on 26 February.
