** ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATOR **

Allison Woods Foundation has an immediate opening for a capable, 
articulate Environmental Educator at its outstanding 1,000-acre 
nature center near Statesville, North Carolina USA. The Environmental 
Educator is responsible for organizing, overseeing, and implementing 
a complete on-site and off-grounds learning program, including summer 
camps.

The full-time, year-round position begins on or about 15 March 2000 
at an annual salary of $24,000, including benefits. This is a 
salaried position that requires some evening and weekend work. The 
Environmental Educator will assist with on-site research activities, 
including animal and plant inventories, bird banding, ecological 
studies, etc.

Allison Woods is filled with natural and cultural history. The tract 
straddles the South Yadkin River and includes examples of nearly 
every Piedmont habitat. One-of- a-kind structures of native stone 
date to the 1920s ; designed and financed by Major William 
Allison--engineer, inventor, businessman, and horticulturist--the 
buildings blend with hardwood and pine forests, streams and 
bottomlands, and ponds and lakes. Miles of trails meander through a 
mix of native and ornamental plants, including dense stands of bamboo 
that adjoin groves of poplar, oak, and cherry. Allison Woods is 
designated as a National Historic Place and as a Natural Heritage 
Site of Regional Importance.

The successful candidate will have:
-- A degree in science or education, with demonstrated experience in 
teaching in an outdoor setting
-- Familiarity with Piedmont natural history
-- Good people skills (in person and on the phone), especially with 
K-12 students and their teachers
-- Willingness to be a team player capable of taking both initiative 
and direction
-- Excellent writing and speaking abilities
-- Administrative abilities (e.g., education budgeting and grant-writing)
-- Computer competency including but not limited to word processing 
programs, databases, and financial packages (such as 
Quicken/QuickBooks)
-- Flexible schedule
-- Excellent references

The Environmental Educator reports to the Executive Director and/or 
Science Education Consultant.
