More Boone Birds

Hi everyone,

It has been a busy week in the High Country. Wednesday saw the return of
some Chipping Sparrows and Tree Swallows in the area. Waterfowl on area
lakes included a second county record for Northern Shoveler on Price Lake,
American Widgeon, Lesser Scaup, Ring-necked Duck, and Pied-billed Grebe on
Price. Also in the area on other lakes and ponds were Blue-winged Teal,
Hooded Mergansers, Woodies, Canada Goose, Mallards, and possible Black Duck
overhead on the Parkway. Also Evening Grosbeaks continue to be seen as well
as good numbers of Goldfinch, Siskin, and a few Purple Finch. Also had the
first seasonal report of Pine Warbler over 3000 feet.

Also a Red-tailed Hawk was seen in the Vilas area that either had plastic
tangled on its feet or a patagial streamer. If anybody knows of any
patagial tagged birds let me know. The observer in this case was without
bino's at the time and can't be sure about the plastic, but does know it was
a red-tail.

Can't wait for warblers!
