Hi all,
Stopped by Umstead State Park (Wake County, NC) for "lunch" again
today. Saw/heard the following:
Mourning Dove
Northern Flicker
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Downy Woodpecker
Pileated Woodpecker (great looks from about 30' away, hammering on a
piece of a fallen pine trunk)
Carolina Chickadee
Tufted Titmouse
White-breasted Nuthatch
Brown-headed Nuthatch
Ruby-crowned Kinglet (absolutely scads and scads, singing and calling
loudly)
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
American Robin
Solitary Vireo (Blue-headed, whatever you wanna call it), great
eye-level views as it foraged and gleaned in some low understory trees,
also one singing
Red-eyed Vireo
Northern Parula
Yellow-throated Warbler
Pine Warbler
Ovenbird
Louisiana Waterthrush (feeding at Pott's Branch creek in all his
tail-pumping glory)
Northern Cardinal
Brown-headed Cowbird :-(
Also:
Eastern Fence Lizard
Some type of skipper, not one of which could I ever imagine id'ing
successfully
E. Swallowtail
Happy Birding!
