Noisy Bobolinks @ Coddle Creek Reservoir

Birding in the rain pays off, sometimes. About 60 colorful, noisy Bobolinks
occupied the small trees and scrub today near noon at the end of Macedonia
Church Rd. (Do NOT step off the roadway pavement or venture beyond the
dead-end barrier. You WILL be reported by the residents, and you WILL be
harrassed by the Cabarrus County Sherriff's Police!)

The swifts numbered in the thousands as they virtually covered the visible
surface of the impoundment with their low, aerial acrobatics, far
outnumbering the three swallow species also seen.

             Double-crested Cormorant (about 100)
             Ruddy Duck (3)
             American Coot (6)
             Chimney Swift (thousands!)
             Eastern Kingbird
             Tree Swallow
             Northern Rough-winged Swallow
             Barn Swallow
             Eastern Bluebird
             Yellow-rumped Warbler
             Common Yellowthroat
             Eastern Towhee
             Field Sparrow
             Chipping Sparrow
             Bobolink (about 60)
             Red-winged Blackbird
             Eastern Meadowlark
             American Goldfinch
