Yesterday PM we arrived in Loris after a 10 day family reunion in
Lancaster, and Spring Mills, PA. No new birds.
At my daughter's house, secluded, with trees and flowers, we were
treated to a nest containing Dark-eyed Juncos in a hanging basket withing
3 feet of the front door. 15 feet away above the garage door was a 3
tiered nest of Phoebes in as many years, and back of the house in a box
with an enlarged entrance was a family of Great Crested Flycatchers. A
pair of hummingbirds and juviniles frequented the feeder by the front
window. Red-eyed Verios were singing at day break and continued into the
night.
By a creek a 1/4 mile away was a nest box of Phoebes being harrased by
House Finches. A Robin was building a nest in a bush two feet off the
ground. Between the house and creek we logged 35 species.
