This morning at dawn about 7 Bobolnks flying around near Darlington, Central
Halifax County.
But today, for first time, no kites observed in Roanoke Rapids, with two
fairly short observation periods this morning; this is so close to September
that one might well believe the Mississippi Kites have left.
[Probable migrants/post-breeding wanderers include White-breasted Nuthatch
yesterday (farm area), many kestrels, Yellow Warblers earlier in month,
Scarlet Tanager (area where not present during breeding), and various
songbirds not identified (tanagers, orioles, warblers, vireos); rearguard
of martins seems definitely to have left at least a week or two ago.
