Kent Fiala reported a BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER today 10/7 on the north end
of Roanoke Island. Our CBC field trip visited the area, where we met Kent
who had seen the bird about 11:00 am. We were not successful in relocating
the bird, but there were plenty of warblers in the area, including a
Nashville Warbler. The Black-throated Gray Warbler was in the pines inside
the short loop trail at the north end of the island, where the pond is
located on the north side of Highway 64. Russ and Patricia Tyndall were
looking for the bird when we left at 1:30 and I haven't heard from them if
they had seen it. If I hear about any more observations of this bird occur,
I'll be sure to post additional information.
Jeff Lewis will be posting the results of today's CBC trip later today or
tomorrow. It was a fairly productive trip despite the early rainy windy
conditions.
