In his book "Living on the Wind", Scott Weidensaul
says that Black-throated Blue Warblers switch from
insects to nectar as their primary food while
wintering in the caribbean. Cape May's do this too. He
also talks about a naturalist in Jamaica who has often
seen BTBWs claim hummingbird feeders and chase off
resident hummers.
So I guess when you see them eat fruit or nectar here
they have just switched a little early. Cant blame
them after an entire summer of eating bugs. Ick.
