Wings Over Water: Day Two

Today, November 4, 2000, was another splendid day for birding and wildlife on
the Outer Banks and surrounding areas. With several trips not yet reporting,
179 species have been observed or heard as of 7:30pm.

Some notable species remain:

FULVOUS WHISTLING DUCKS - North Pond Pea Island
ROSS'S GOOSE (3) - South Pond Pea Island
White-rumped Sandpiper - Pea Island Salt Flats and
     South Pond
American Pipits - Cape Point and South Pond
PURPLE SANDPIPER - Oregon Inlet Groin, Ocracoke Village
     Ferry Terminal
RED-COCKADED WOODPECKER - Palmetto Peartree Reserve
PIPING PLOVER - several at Oregon Inlet

The Pelagic Trip made a successful offshore journey and recorded:

Pomarine Jaeger
Parasitic Jaeger
Black-legged Kittiwake
Northern Fulmar
Black-capped Petrel
Greater Shearwater
Cory's Shearwater
Audubon's Shearwater
Wilson's Storm Petrel

There are a lot of Peregrine Falcons around this year and several Parasitic
Jaeger's have been seen from shore.

Odd for this time of year, no Red-breasted Mergansers or Red-throated Loons,
but there is still one day to go.
