lodging in south Texas

Hi,

My husband and I are planning a trip to South Texas
for around March, 2000. We plan to bird the wildlife
refuges and Audubon Sanctuary near Brownsville.
(Laguna Atascosa and Santa Ana). Does anyone know of
cottages or cabins to rent in this area? We are not
interested in bed and breakfasts or condos if we can
help it (I have unusual sleep habits due to a chronic
illness; I'm in bed when normal people are eating
dinner). We would settle for an efficiency in a motel
if it also had a great balcony overlooking an area
that atrracts birds.

A second question: Can anyone recommend a birding
field guide for Texas? OUr choices seem to be: FIELD
GUIDE TO TEXAS BIRDS, Peterson; BIRDING TEXAS, Wauer &
Elwonger; and BIRDER'S GUIDE TO TEXAS, Kutac. Which is
best?

We just bought the new Kaufman--would that suffice?

Thanks for the feedback
