Morris Creek, Part II

Number 8 on the list of dumb things to do with e-mail - hit the send button
too soon.

Today, in the steady cold rain (no snow for us in the lower Piedmont), the
feeders were very busy. There were good numbers of both American
Goldfinches and House Finches, as well as Dark-eyed Juncoes and Chipping
Sparrows. Among the surprise visitors at the feeders today were two Song
Sparrows. I usually record one Song Sparrow at the feeder in the spring.
Other surprise visitors today were two Crows, most likely American Crows.
They strode around for a while under the feeders but did not eat, attracted
perhaps by the noise of the many smaller birds.

Also surprising today were the Robins, again in large numbers. They were
most persistently feeding in the many remaining berries of the Devil's
Walking Stick (Aralia spinosa) and poking about in the fallen leaves.

The birds were certainly the highlight of a dreary rainy day.
