Results of the Mango tour

Myself and three local birders (to remain unnamed unless they particularly want
to be named) made the trip to Concord this morning and were very pleased to view
the Green-breasted Mango several times during our stay. The bird was seen from
our arrival until our departure at 11a.m. The bird was feeding aprox. every
15-20 minutes at the feeder on the back porch. During the periods when the bird
was not at the feeder it could be occasionally seen in the adjacent pear tree or
perched in a nearby sweetgum.

Some notes on the bird:
Much larger than the typical locally seen hummers, brilliant green back, bright
green stripe on chest. There are reddish markings from the base of the bill
down the sides of the neck (not nearly to the extent as illustrated in Nat Geo).
The bill is long and strongly decurved. Unlike most of our winter hummers, the
field marks on this one are fairly easy to see. Incidentally, the only "local"
fieldguide that appears to have this bird illustrated is the 3rd edition of
National Geographic.

Many thanks to the property owner for allowing us to view this incredible bird!
Please sign her guest register if you visit!
