Birded a neat little spot in Southern Shores yeasterday a.m. for one hour,
followed by another 3 hours this a.m. It is perhaps 8 acres of lush
deciduous forest surrounded by water and developement. There was a nice
fallout of migrants and I recorded the following:
Olive-sided Flycatcher
14 species of warblers including several Magnolias, several Black-throated
Blues, Black-throated Green, lots of Blackpolls, Yellow Warblers, a
Wilson's, and a drab female Nashville (I think). Also Scarlet and Summer
Tanager, Orchard Oriole, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Bobolink (fly-bys), Indigo
Bunting, YB Cuckoo, Gray-cheeked Thrush, Veery, Goldfinch, White-throated
Sparrow (late), E. Wood Pewees, and other more common or breeding species.
It has been the hottest birding I have seen this spring - finally!
For directions to this little oasis, see my Olive-sided Flycatcher posting.
