We went canoeing on the New River this morning in Ashe County. We saw and
heard many birds along the way, but the most surprising one was an adult
Pied-billed Grebe. It was in breeding plumage(i.e. it had the rings around
it's bill). We did not see a mate or young with it. Does anyone know if
they breed along the New River? This is one of the very few times we have
seen PBGs in the early summer. D&L
