Hello, this is an October 11 update of the Carolina Rare Bird Alert featuring
birding news from North and South Carolina sponsored by the Carolina Bird
Club. Highlight of this report is:
BROAD-BILLED HUMMINGBIRD
A male BROAD-BILLED HUMMINGBIRD is being seen in New Bern, NC. This bird has
been seen and enjoyed by numerous birders eager to see this first record for
NC. The hosts are Max and Inge Parker, who are graciously allowing to allow
birders to visit their property. They do live in a private gated community so
it is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY to call ahead to get your name on the guest list
to pass through the guardgate. Fail to do this and you will not be allowed to
enter. Call the Parkers at 252- 637-4966. Here are directions: From New Bern
take NC 55 east toward Bayboro. At aprox. 1 mile turn right onto Broad Creek
Rd. After 6 miles turn right into Fairfield Harbor. Stop at the security gate
then proceed to a right on Caracara. Left on Pelican. Pass the golf
clubhouse and on to a left on Gondolier. Right on Black Swan. left on Port
Drive. The address is 5819 Port drive. the red feeder in the front is
attracting the hummingbird.
