A very wintery feel to the birds on the Shepherd's Trail today,
despite the +70F temperatures. Spent 1 1/2 hours there this pm, and
it was slow going:
White-throated sparrow 1
N flicker 3
Downy WP 2
RB WP 1
YB sapsucker 1
WB Nuthatch 2
BH Nuthatch 2
C Chickadee 10+
T Titmouse 3
C Wren 2
Ruby-crowned kinglet 1
B Jay 5
Am Crow 2
N Cardinal 5
E Towhee 3
Starling 10+
Almost went the whole trail without seeing a single migrant, but
finally I heard a G catbird and watched a phoebe grabbing flies from
its perch in a bare poplar.
NOT A SINGLE YR WARBLER!
Oh, and my first Duke Forest chipmunk!
best wishes
