Deceased Hummingbird

My wife just returned from our large garage where we have a second
kitchen along one wall for cooking goodies such as country ham, fried
chicken collards and chitlins so that we can stand to live in the rest
of the house.. She had gone to retrieve some muffin tins for her
Halloween cup cakes. Much to our sorrow, there was a long deceased,
desiccated hummingbird, lying on one of the racks. We try to keep the
door closed most of the time because we have had birds, including
hummers get in, but to the best of our knowledge, we got all of them
out.

This hummer looks very small to me. It could be a sub adult Ruby throat.
They nest here every year. However, the tail looks short. The throat is
finely speckled in lines. Having never held but one hummer in my hands
and that was to free one trapped in my screened porch, I won't venture a
guess about "spatulate central tail feathers".

I would love to ship this neat little specimen to one of you experts for
ID and in the hopes that some institution might want it for their
collection. The structure and colors remain very good.

Any takers?

Buddy
