enhancing land for birds

		18 November 2002

Dear Carolina Birders:

I am working with a member of a committee in Orange County, NC that is
determining the various uses of a large tract of land along Old NC
Highway 86 in Orange County. Part of the land will be developed for two
schools and recreational facilities. Much of the remaining land consists
of a meadow, a pond, and a large area of dense 15' pine trees. The
committee member and I would like to persuade the other members to keep
and enhance the meadow as a natural area for birds and other wildlife and
to fashion a nature trail in a section of the pine woods. We need
concrete advice and suggestions that would help us draw up a detailed
plan to present to the other committee members showing how to enhance the
meadow and pond area and how to create a nature trail. If any of you
could assist us, or suggest to us the names of others who could, please
e-mail me at lawoffice10@juno.com (not through Carolina Birds) so that
the committee member can then contact you. Thank you very much!
