C'birders,
I had to run down to Wilmington today (all work and no play unfortunately).
Early on, I saw a couple of turkey vultures and I did what I have done since
I was a child. I looked hard to convince myself that they were not eagles.
They were not.
Then, outside of Elizabethtown on the Hwy 87 by-pass, I saw another soaring
bird. It was flying high over the road ahead. I looked for the dihedral
wings. Nope. I looked for the rocking flight. Nope. I looked for the
"headless" silhouette. Nope. Somehow, I still was thinking TV.
Seconds later, I passed under the bird and saw the white head and tail.
Suddenly, it dawned on me that this was no turkey vulture. Duh.
I hope I never lose the feeling I get when I see an eagle.
