Herons and Koi

I saw an article in a pond publication that suggested this;
Get a sprinkler (like a Rainbird (R)) and set it up so that it is at about
mid thigh high, and sweeps across the pond. Get a motion detector that will
control the on-off valve for the water. (An on off valve, electric
controlled, can be got at most any full service garden center.)
OK. The motion detector is to control a light, but can be used to control an
electric switch. Get all this wired up, set the sprinkler to sweep across
the pond. When mister Ardea comes to snatch a fish, the motion detector
switches on, the sprinkler sweeps the pond, Mr. (or Mrs.) Heron will get hit
with a spray of water and beat an undignified retreat. After a few seconds
the motion detector turns off, turning off the water, and the trap is ready
to be sprung again. No harm to anyone, and the Heron's water the lawn.

Well, it is a long link. Just copy the whole thing (ending with heron) and
paste it in your browser.
