Hilton Pond 1/8/03 (Tree Bark Quiz)

Although trees are easily identified by their leaves, trying to ID them by their bark in mid-winter is a bit tougher. The current installment of "This Week at Hilton Pond" puts winter naturalists to the test with a mini-quiz entitled "Tree Bark Baffler #1."

Just click on http://www.hiltonpond.org/ThisWeek030108.html for the week of 8-14 January 2003 for photos of bark from several "mystery trees" growing at Hilton Pond Center for Piedmont Natural History.

As always, there's a tally of birds banded during the period. once again, there is an interesting list of recaptures of an elderly batch of American Goldfinches banded at the Center during the last century.

Please forward this message to others who are interested in nature and birds. Anyone can get a free weekly reminder for "This Week at Hilton Pond" by sending a blank e-mail to mailto:info@hiltonpond.org with SUBSCRIBE in the subject line.
