The following are highlights of the 3 hour birdwalk at Charleston County's
Caw Caw Park in Ravenel, SC. led by Perry Nugent at 8:30 am.
January 29, 2003
51 species were seen and/or heard on a nice day. The most interesting were;
6 Pied-billed Grebes, 6 Wood Ducks, 2 Hooded Mergansers, 1 adult Bald Eagle
on nest, 2 Sharp-shinned Hawks, 4 Red-shouldered Hawks, 1 Great Horned Owl
seen through 60x spotting scope while she sits on eggs, 1 Hairy Woodpecker,
8 Phoebes some of them courting and/or fighting, 6 Ruby-crowned Kinglets, 1
Golden-crowned Kinglet, 4 Hermit Thrushes, 1 Loggerhead Shrike, 1
Blue-headed Vireo, 1 Orange-crowned Warbler, 1 Yellow-throated Warbler, 2
Pine Warbler, and 1 Towhee.
