New Hope Audubon Meeting tonight!



Michal Skakuj is the featured speaker for the February New Hope
Audubon
Society membership meeting.  Details below.

Date: Thursday, February 6, 2003
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Place: Totten Center, NC Botanical Gardens, Chapel Hill
Speaker: Dr. Michal "Mike" Skakuj
Topic: Birds of Europe and Asia

 Mike is an ornithologist and illustrator and a native of Poland. He
has a
Ph.D. from the University of Gdansk and has published more than 60
scientific papers, mostly on the identification of birds. His
scientific
insterests include the ecology and behavior of birds, especially the
feeding
strategies of shorebirds. His illustrations of birds have been
published in
journals in Poland, Germany (Limicola), Great Britain (British Birds,
Birdwatch) and the US. His work appears on the covers of The Auk, the
journal of the American Ornitholgists' Union, for January and October,
2001.
He has also illustrated several works on plants and lichens, including
a
book on identification and distribution of Polish orchids. His
portraits of
bird feathers are included in the latest New Hope Audubon brochure.
