All,
Thanks to those who sent me directions to the goose. I saw it Friday
afternoon in the corn stubble directly opposite the Mapleview Farm
entrance road; I actually saw it from 1/2 mile away while I was still
traveling down Dairyland at ca. 60 mph. I asked the folks who live in
the small brick house across from the farm entrance (it appears the guy
works at the dairy) if it'd be ok to take a picture of the bird from
their backyard, and they said yes. The fellow also said the bird had
been around for "a long time," maybe a couple of months. So, it doesn't
sound like its going anywhere real, real soon. No sign of the pipits or
longspurs.
BTW, the next time it sounds to any of you like I might go chasing a
bird down I40 headed west of Raleigh on a Friday afternoon at 4:30, just
come on over and shoot me. Too much traffic!
Take care and good birding,
Clyde Sorenson
