Henderson County Turkeys

Folks,
Ron Selvey and I birded around Henderson and Buncombe Counties for a
few hours this AM. When the rain started, I told Ron I wanted to test my
theory on Turkeys and rain. We headed out to N. Mills River Road area and
within 30 minutes and a half mile radius, we had 80+ Turkeys. My experience
is that on any given day, if you check the same open, field areas we checked
today, you are lucky to find any Turkeys. If you go to those same areas on
a rainy day, you will find good numbers of Turkeys and once again, this
proved to be true. While this is not scientific by any means, it seems to
hold true! I was told by an old hunter that Turkeys don't like to get their
bellies wet, so they prefer short, open areas of growth when it rains. Any
other thoughts on the subject would be welcome.
Best regards,
Wayne
