Hello, this is a February 27 update of the Carolina Rare Bird Alert featuring 
birding news from North and South Carolina sponsored by the Carolina Bird 
Club. Highlights on this report include:

BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK (NC)
SLATY-BACKED GULL (NC)
DOVEKIE (NC, SC)
GLAUCOUS GULL (SC)
RAZORBILLS (NC)
LITTLE GULL (NC)
LONG-TAILED DUCK (NC)
NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED SPARROW (NC)

An imm. male BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK is coming to a feeder in Elizabeth City, 
NC. Call the Remaleys at 252-338-3492 for details on how to see this bird.

An adult SLATY-BACKED GULL was seen at Cape Hatteras Point on 2-16 but has 
not been relocated. Other interseting birds at Cape Point on the 16th and 
17th include CALIFORNIA GULL, 2 first year THAYERS GULLS,  and a LITTLE GULL.

Birders on the Outer Banks should continue to check the ocean often for 
DOVEKIES , RAZORBILLS, and perhaps other alcids. These 2 species have been 
seen frequently from Southern Shores, NC down to Ocracoke I. In SC, a DOVEKIE 
was reported 2-26 from Fort Moultrie as was a 1st winter GLAUCOUS GULL..

An adult LITTLE GULL ws seen 2-15 at Emerald Isle, NC. Locate flocks of 
Bonapartes gulls and sort through them carefully for LITTLE GULLS.

Two LONG-TAILED DUCKS have been present at Robinwood Lake in Gaston county , 
NC for about a week. These birds were seen as recently as 2-25. Call 
Steve Tracy at 704-853-0654 for directions and best viewing spots.

Far inland in Henderson County, NC a NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED SPARROW is being 
seen along Hooper Lane. Call Wayne Forsythe at 828-697-6628 for directions.
