RE: Thick-billed Murre at Fort Macon, NC

When I got there between 9:15 and 9:30 this morning, the thick-billed murre
was up the beach about 100 yards, in the Coast Guard Station direction. It
was about 20 feet offshore, diving in the surf, headed toward the jetty. I
accompanied it slowly to the jetty.

Maybe it spent the night at the Coast Guard Station.

By the time other birders came, just after 10 a.m., the murre was happily
diving and swimming almost up to the jetty rocks.

Two razorbills flew by quite a distance out while I was there.

Subject: Thick-billed Murre at Fort Macon, NC

As of 11am, the murre is still at Fort Macon. It was right next to the
major jetty (extends S or SSE), where it was on Tuesday. Note: this is
at the very end of the road, near the fort, NOT the bathhouse parking
area (which is a mile west of the inlet).

A few of us did not see it at 8am. Perhaps then it was right off the
tip of the jetty, maybe resting on the rocks.
