The following are highlights of the 3 hour Sunday morning birdwalk at
Magnolia Plantation at 3550 Ashley River Road ( highway 61 ) northwest of
Charleston, SC led by Perry Nugent at 8:30 am.
March 16, 2003
59 species were seen and/or heard on a cloudy cool day. The most
interesting were; 7 Horned Grebes ( 3 in breeding plumage ), 12 Great Blue
Herons with 4 Nests, 45 Great Egrets many nests, 1 Green Heron, 10
Black-crowned Night Herons one nest, 15 Wood Ducks some babies, 1 Caspian
Tern, 2 Forster's Terns, 1 Pleated Woodpecker, 6 Purple Martins, 4 Northern
Rough-winged Swallows, 8 Barn Swallows, 1 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, 1
Blue-headed Vireo, 1 Northern Parula warbler, and 4 Common Yellowthroats.
