Hello, this is a May 2 update of the Carolina Rare Bird alert featuring
birding news from North and South Carolina sponsored by the Carolina Bird
Club. Highlights on this report include:
ROSEATE SPOONBILL
FULVOUS-WHISTLING DUCKS
GRAY KINGBIRD
Birders in the Huntington Beach State Park area of SC can look for up to 8
FULVOUS WHISTLING-DUCKS at Mullet Pond. Scan through the pondside vegetation
carefully for these birds. The ducks were present May 1st.
A ROSEATE SPOONBILL was at Huntington Beach SP on 4-22 and 4-23 but was seen
apparently leaving the area to the north towards Murrells Inlet, where this
species has been seen before.. Area birders still should be aware of the
possibility of the bird still being in the area. Birders in SE NC should also
be aware of this bird's presence. The Sunset Beach , NC twin lakes or the
Calabash Creek bridge would be good spots to look for this bird.
A GRAY KINGBIRD was found at the south end of Pawley's Island , SC on May 1
and relocated later that day.
Thanks this week to John Fussell, RC Davenport, Joseph Gagliano, Donald Mann,
and Cynthia Hinson for their calls and reports.
