Caw Caw birdwalk



The following are highlights of the 3 hour Saturday birdwalk at Charleston
County's Caw Caw Park on US highway 17 south in Ravenel, SC led by Perry
Nugent at 8:30 am.  A small fee is charged.  For more information click on
http://www.ccprc.com .  Today's walk was part of the spring migration count
which was started at 5 am.

74 species were seen and/or heard on a nice turning hot day.  The most
interesting were; 1 Pied-billed Grebe, 25 Anhingas, 2 Least Bitterns, 25
Great Blue Herons, 70 Great Egrets, 20 Snowy Egrets, 12 Little Blue Herons,
8 Tri-colored Herons, 5 Green Herons, 3 Black-crowned Night Herons, 46 White
Ibis, 100+ Wood Storks, 4 Mississippi Kites, 2 Ospreys, 2 fledgling Bald
Eagles, 5 Clapper Rails, 7 King Rails, 75 Semipalmated Plovers, 20 Greater
Yellowlegs, 3 Lesser Yellowlegs, 30 Solitary Sandpipers, 5 Spotted
Sandpipers, 20 Least Sandpipers, 8 Yellow-billed Cuckoos, 6 Barred Owls, 4
Wood Pewees, 2 Acadian Flycatchers, 3 Yellow-throated Vireos, 30 Northern
Parula Warblers, 8 Yellow-throated Warblers, 4 Pine Warblers, 15
Prothonotary Warblers, 25 Common Yellowthroats, 10 Painted Buntings, and 6
Orchard Orioles.  The water level is perfect to attract wadingbirds and
sandpipers as you can see by the numbers above.
