The following are highlights of the 3 hour Sunday morning birdwalk at
Magnolia Plantation on 3550 Ashley River Road ( highway 61 ) northwest of
Charleston, SC led by Perry Nugent at 8:30 am. A fee is charged.
May 25, 2003
52 species were seen on a nice day. The most interesting were; 20
Pied-billed Grebe some babies, 50+ Anhingas many nests, 10 Least Bitterns
nest ), 5 Great Blue Herons, 50+ Great Egrets, 20 Snowy Egrets, 15 Cattle
Egrets, 50+ Little Blue Herons, 4 Tri-colored Herons, 10 Green Herons, 5
Black-crowned night Herons, 1 Yellow-crowned Night Heron, all herons have
many easily visible nests, 60 Wood Ducks many babies, 30+ Common Moorhens
many babies, 4 American Coots with 2-3 babies, 4 Yellow-billed Cuckoos, 2
Eastern Kingbirds nest, 5 Northern Parula Warblers, and 3 Painted Buntings.
