A surprising yard bird, scouped by Simon T.

Well, as I readied myself for work, I glanced out at my feeders and did
one of those infamous double takes. There clambering around, figuring
out how to land on an open platform feeder was a Eurasian Collared Dove
(Simon has a similar post this AM)! I couldn't believe it. A birding
buddy and I were talking a few years ago; we often play head games with
each other such as "what is the one bird you Really want to see this
year"? This time the question was "how long do you think it will be
before the collared doves are nesting in our area"? My reply was "5
years". Scary. If anyone wants this bird for a Durham, NC record, call
or email me and I can give you directions. I loaded the platform feeder
with safflower seed when I left. Now if the bird can only stay away
from the neighbor's cat ....
