Several folks from my work have been conducting aquatic work on the Cape Fear
River between Lock & Dam #1 and Wilmington throughout the year, and over the
past 10 years. We often seen Mississippi Kites, but this year there have been
several Swallow-tailed kites. Single birds were seen on several dates in
May, but more interesting were 4 in view at one time seen last week (19 June
2003) between the NC 11 bridge and Riegelwood. They could not tell if any were
young birds, but they watched one carry a snake around for some time.
