Fall Migration or Post Breeding Dispersal?

I went to a Sod Farm in Henderson County today, and found a peep that I
was able to "measure" against a nearby Killdeer. Since its legs seemed
to be greenish yellowish or at least not as black as the bill appeared
to be I suppose it was a Least Sandpiper. Then an hour later two
dowitchers flew overhead.

I guess the stormy weather has much to do with sandpipers deciding to
stop at the wet spot at the sod farm, but where they merely having a
fling after their parental responsibilities were finished, or has the
great drama of fall migration begun just ten days after the beginning of
summer?

In any case, it is amazing the shorebirds that put in an appearance, way
inland and up in the mountains, here in Henderson County.
