Hello,
Barbara and I walked down to the jetty at HBSP today and saw lots of
good birds - much as Ritch Lilly reported from his observations
yesterday (but to be honest Ritch got several species we did not -
notably the Black Terns, Wilson's Plovers, and Wood Storks).
Probably the only thing we can report that Ritch did not was a
Reddish Egret which was actually on the Mullet Pond.
I'm reporting this for those of you who like to keep up with the
color bands on Piping Plovers. I'll try to report these to the
proper "authorities" (have their e-mail addresses somewhere).
Today on the beach at HBSP we had:
2 with bicolored blue and white bands just above the right foot,
silver bands just above the left foot (possibly New Brunswick
1999/2000, the usual combination we see on Piping Plovers at HBSP)
1 with a white "flag" on the right leg above the knee, silver band
above the knee on the left leg (never seen this pattern before)
1 with a silver or white band above the right knee only (difficult to discern)
2 unbanded individuals
I've already written that today we missed all those Wood Storks that
have been at HBSP. Well, we went down to Aynor straight from the
park, and there were 2 storks in the yard right behind the post
office there. No kidding. One flew, and we drove within 6 feet of
the other, just sitting there in somebody's yard.
Wishing you good birding,
St.
