Caw Caw birdwalks



The following are highlights of the latest 3 hour birdwalks at Charleston
County's Caw Caw Park which is on US 17 in Ravenel, SC about 10 miles south
of the intersection US 17 and US 526.  It is led by Perry Nugent at 8:30 am.

August 16, 2003

54 species were seen and/or heard on a nice day.  The most interesting were;
2 Least Bitterns, 1 Yellow-crowned Night Heron, 2 Mississippi Kites, 4
Yellow-billed Cuckoos, 25 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, 3 Belted Kingfishers,
15 Northern Parula Warblers, 10 Yellow Warblers, 1 Yellow-throated Warbler,
1 Prothonotary Warbler, 3 American Redstarts, 2 Summer Tanagers, 10 Blue
Grosbeaks, 40 Indigo Buntings, and 40 Painted Buntings. Most of the buntings
were young.

August 20, 2003

52 species were seen and/or heard on a nice cloudy day when birds were hard
to find.  The most interesting were; 1 Mottled Duck, 2 Mississippi Kites, 1
Sharp-shinned Hawk, 2 Barred Owls, 10 White-eyed Vireos, ! Yellow-throated
Vireo, 6 Red-eyed Vireos, 2 Northern Parula Warblers, 5 Yellow Warblers, 6
Pine Warblers, 1 Black-and-white Warbler, 2 Blue Grosbeak, 6 Indigo
Buntings, 3 Painted Buntings, and 1 Baltimore Oriole.
